Weston Marume is a doctoral candidate in Global Governance and Human Security at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, specializing in the governance of natural resources. His current research examines the political economy of the expanding critical minerals extraction industry, driven by the global energy transition, with a focus on Zimbabwe’s lithium industry.
Weston brings a wealth of practical experience to his academic work. From 2019 to 2023, he served as a Clerk of Committees for the Parliament of Zimbabwe, where he worked with the Committee on Mines and Mining Development, the Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, and the Thematic Committee on Peace and Security. Prior to his time with the Parliament, he was an Associate Consultant at Green Protect Environmental Solutions, leading the environmental impact assessment section.
He holds a Master of Arts in International Development Studies from Ohio University, with a concentration in Environment and Development, and a Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies from Midlands State University in Zimbabwe. His research interests include energy transitions, natural resource governance, environmental security, and climate justice.
